While You Were Sleeping: So Much Is Happening

by J.R.

To start, there were a bunch of nutso games in Conference III tonight:

Chicago won 5-4 in a shootout against Phoenix, with Brandon Pirri tying the game in the third and getting the shootout winner.

That win vaults Chicago into first (stupid power rankings) because the Avs got dog-stomped by the Blues 7-3 in a game featuring the greatest roster move in hockey: the double goalie-switch. The game had three fights late in the second, one of which involved…Matt Duchene and Vlad Sobotka? Okeydoke.

Meanwhile, in Alberta, Dallas beat the Flames 7-3 with a four-goal night from Tyler Seguin, who feels very comfortable after hat tricks, what with the mess everywhere. Jamie Benn had a six-point night, assisting on all four Seguin goals and getting one of his own (on which Seguin assisted). Also, Ryan Garbutt scored. Garbutt.

AND THEN:

The Blackhawks traded for Kris Versteeg — because they need another winger? — and 29 general managers wrote to Dale Tallon to remind him he doesn’t have to just deal with Chicago
