Great Game Previews In History: It’s A Special Conference III Jukebox Edition
In 1889, the first jukebox went into operation at the Palais Royale Saloon in San Francisco.
It was little more than a Edison phonograph with four stethoscope-like tubes, so four patrons could listen at once.
Towels were supplied so that Palais Royale patrons could wipe off the listening tubes between uses. Despite competition from player pianos, this primitive jukebox was a big hit across the country. In its first six months of service, the Nickel-in-the-Slot earned over $1,000.
In honor of that and with today being a special day — all seven Conference III teams in action — it’s a jukebox edition of Game Previews.

Last 10: Chicago 7-2-1; Vancouver 3-4-3
The Jam: For a time — hell, maybe still to some degree now — this was one of the West’s great rivalries. But the Canucks and Hawks find themselves in two very different situations. The Hawks are at the familiar top of the division; the Canucks are the worst non-Alberta team in the Pacific. Worlds apart…
