Frederick_I_of_SwedenFredrick I, Prince-Consort of Sweden, is elected King of Sweden after the abdication of his wife Ulrika Eleonora on this day in 1720.

Ulrika supported the political ambitions of her husband and several times had asked the Riksdag to allow a William & Mary-style co-monarchy, but had been refused. Thus she made “the great sacrifice” of her life, as she called it, and abdicated in favor of Frederick.

Jets at Stars, 7:30 PM

Records: Jets (32-31-9, 73 points, 6th in Conference III); Stars (33-26-11, 77 points, 5th in Conference III)

Last Time They Met: There was no messing around by the Jets when they hung a 7-2 loss on the Stars March 16, ending Dallas’ run with the Belt.

Last 10: Winnipeg 2-5-3; Dallas 5-4-1

Historical Context: A massively important game, this. Dallas could tie Phoenix for the last wild-card spot with a win (the Coyotes play New York) and Winnipeg needs to win to stay in the discussion. On the other hand, Frederick was wholly unimportant and did little for Sweden (except ban dueling).
