Tonight, the Minnesota Wild defend the Conference III Belt for the first time since winning both ends of a two-in-three set with the Avs to start the season. Their first Central Time challenger? The Dallas Stars, who will try to add the Conference III Belt to their Precog Stanley Cup.

This will be Dallas’ first chance at the Belt since dropping the strap in a 7-2 thrashing to Winnipeg (get it? Thrashing?) March 16, a one-game, five-day run that was the Stars’ only reign. It also started a three-week period of short-term champs, in which every Conference III team save the Wild had a run.

Should the Stars prevail tonight, the team’s first defense will come Nov. 6 at home in the Chambers Pot against Nashville. If Minnesota retains, they’ll defend again in two weeks against these same Stars.

Also tonight: Colorado tries to plop the Poophat on St. Louis.
