The [Redacted] Week In Review With Obscene Alex: 30 December 2013

200px-Profanity.svgOne of the greatest parts of the Conference III Festivus post was the commentary by a man we named “Obscene Alex,” whose vitriol was pungent, WordPress moderated his comment and I was forced to include his contributions in a highly-censored form.

Obscene Alex was kind enough to join the Conference III conversation on Twitter, locking up his oh-so-perfect handle and he has agreed, from time to time, to review the week in Conference III action for us. Conference III Championship Belt Tale of the Tape: St. Louis at Dallas, 29 December 2013

It took a shootout to do it, but St. Louis won the Conference III Belt from Chicago Saturday night in a 6-5 classic, setting up the third belt match in three days after the Christmas break as the Blues travel to defend their title in Dallas, still looking for their first run with the strap.

Great Game Previews In History: 10 December 2013

Today In History

The first Nobel Prizes were awarded on this day in 1901. Established by the then-shocking will of Alfred Nobel, the five prizes — in Peace, Chemistry, Physics, Medicine (or Physiology), and Literature — are worth 8 million Swedish kroner nowadays, plus that neat medal.

The first Peace Prize was awarded to Henry Dunant and Frederic Passy, who were instrumental in the foundation of the International Red Cross and in establishing the Geneva Conventions. We mention them here, because there’s not much room for such dalliance in Conference III.

The level of gumption it takes to challenge Shea Weber when such fistic flyweights like Bobby Butler are on the ice belies either an incredible amount of courage or an astounding level of idiocy. But, as we all know by now, Conference III lives on the line between courage and idiocy.
